Chimneys and leadwork are two of the most common sources of leaks on UK roofs — and two areas where the details really matter. R&A Roofing & Sons Ltd carries out chimney repairs, repointing, flashing work and lead detailing to keep properties watertight, secure, and looking their best.
This page shows a selection of chimney repair and leadwork projects we’ve completed across East Sussex and Kent, including:
Battle, Beckley, Bexhill, Brighton, Burwash, Cranbrook, Dallington, Eastbourne, Fairlight, Hailsham, Hastings, Hawkhurst, Heathfield, High Weald, Horam, Lewes, Maresfield, Newhaven, Northiam, Peasmarsh, Pevensey, Polegate, Robertsbridge, Rye, Sandhurst, Stonegate, Tenterden, Tunbridge Wells, Uckfield, Wadhurst, and Westfield.
Whether it’s a minor repair after storm damage or a full chimney refurbishment, we focus on long-lasting workmanship that blends in neatly with the existing roofline.
What you’ll see in our chimney & leadwork work
Chimney repointing to stop water ingress and strengthen failing mortar
Chimney re-bedding / re-flaunching where the top has cracked or perished
Brickwork repairs and localised rebuilds for unstable or weathered stacks
Lead flashings renewed around chimney bases and abutments
Step flashing and soakers installed/replaced for reliable protection at junctions
Lead valleys and aprons repaired or replaced for clean, watertight lines
Chimney cowls / caps fitted where needed to reduce downdraughts and rain entry
(If you don’t offer cowls/caps, I’ll remove that line.)
Why leadwork matters
Lead is one of the most proven materials in roofing — but only when it’s detailed correctly. Poorly fitted, cracked or lifted flashing can allow moisture in around chimneys and wall junctions, leading to damp patches, internal staining and timber decay. Our aim is simple: solve the leak properly and leave a tidy finish that lasts.
Our approach
We keep chimney and leadwork jobs straightforward and thorough:
Inspect the stack and junctions – mortar, bricks, pots, and flashing condition
Identify the cause – movement, failing mortar, defective flashing, blocked drainage, etc.
Repair or renew – only what’s needed, done properly
Weatherproof and finish – neat edges, secure fixings, clean lines
Final check & tidy up – we leave the area safe and presentable
